Every year over 70 million square meters of housing is built and sold in the Russian Federation. The population increases demands not only to the quality of the dwelling itself, but also to the living environment, as the complex of conditions and factors that allows a person to carry out non-productive activities on the territory of settlements. The world experience of the historical residential development of the districts of Rome, Barcelona, Paris, Moscow confirms the opinion that the quarterly closed building meets the concept of residential urban environment to the greatest extent. The article discusses the features of space-planning decisions of sectional multi-apartment residential buildings for using in a quarterly closed development. These features include: closure of the development, unified town-planning module, the division of streets into main and residential. Indicators of some variants of the quarterly development are given.
