An important feature of the construction of the living environment for a family couple is the dynamic nature of its life, which should be taken into account when organizing the space of dwelling cells. Areas and interior elements should be multifunctional and meet the changing needs of the family. In the planning organization of the dwelling cell, it is necessary to provide for the possibility of transformation and expanded functional use of its elements. The object of the study is a hostel for married graduate students and teachers. The aim is to identify the principles of transformation of the dwelling cell of the hostel for married graduate students and teachers. The authors identified the structural elements and structural units of the dwelling cell, as well as developed the structure: the core and living tissue. The objectives of this work are to classify the types of families by age composition, demographic features and the formation of a dwelling cell of the hostel for different types of families. As a result of the study, the structure of transformable dwelling cells of hostels for different composition and type of families is proposed.
